About the founder...
ProgressiveSteps training and consultation was established by Kerry-Anne Robinson. Kerry-Anne has a Master's Degree in Education specializing in Special Education from the University of Alberta and is working towards her certification in Behaviour Analysis.
Kerry-Anne has a brother with autism and another with a developmental delay. As they aged out of school, the lack of quality educational services and supports available to them became apparent. As a result, Kerry-Anne's graduate research and course work focused on using behavioural strategies to teach life skills, leisure skills, and vocational skills to adolescents and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
During her graduate career, Kerry-Anne had the opportunity to do an internship at the Princeton Child Development Institute (PCDI) in their Adult Life Skills Program. There she learned how to program for, and teach adults with autism who also exhibit significant challenges to independently complete a variety of life, leisure and vocational skills. Her work at PCDI inspired her to bring similar teaching strategies and services to Ontario so that adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, residing here may have the opportunity for continued learning and an increased quality of life.
Kerry-Anne has been implementing, developing and supervising behaviourally based programs for children, adolescents and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities for 10 years. Kerry-Anne has presented at national and international conferences on a variety of topics including: Using Empirically Based Strategies to teach adolescents and adults with autism vocational skills; Barriers and Bridges to Parental adherence to behavioural strategies and; using Transactional Analysis to teach appropriate interaction skills to children with autism.
